Exercise: Green River Community College: GIS Applied Science Degree program
Purpose
To learn to use the Arc Hydro tools in the ESRI GIS software to determine the possible path of a surface chemical spill flow in the event of a massive earthquake along any major Seattle faults. A 5-meter DEM was used for analysis, with the locations of known chemical storage depots and pipelines as the basis for the analysis. Spill sites were chosen in the downtown Seattle business district, the industrial area and a residential area. Constructed infrasturcture such as storm drains and catchment basins were not part of the analysis, which focused on surface liquid flows.
